Matlock season 2's cast sets up a reunion from a 100% Rotten Tomatoes comedy between a newcomer to the legal TV series and someone already involved. Matlock season 2 will continue the story of Kathy Bates' Matty Kingston, who used the name of the '80s lawyer as an alias to investigate a law firm, seeking justice for her deceased daughter.
Now, Deadline confirms that Justina Machado will be portraying Eva in Matlock season 2. Eva is Senior's fourth ex-wife, a fierce attorney who runs Jacobson Moore's Miami office. This reunites the actor with series creator Jennie Snyder Urman, having worked with her before on the CW series Jane the Virgin, where Machado was recurring as Rogelio's ex-girlfriend, Darci Factor.

Eva Sounds Like A Force To Be Reckoned With
Eva is the ex-wife of Senior's that made him swear off ever getting married again. Based on her character description, it also seems she's arriving in New York City for an important meeting regarding the law firm. This could have something to do with the Matlock season 1 finale, which saw Olympia confront Julian about Matty's WellBrexa investigation.
When Eva does arrive, she seemingly plans on using the meeting to her advantage. Since she has a recurring role in the series, it sounds like she won't be leaving once the subject of the meeting has been resolved. Instead, she might be using this to make her own role in the law firm much more comfortable.
Machado proved her commanding screen presence in Jane the Virgin, running a matchmaking business starting from her debut in season 3. She's also most recently been a series regular in Netflix's Pulse as Natalie Cruz, and onstage as Carmen Garcia in Real Women Have Curves. Her arrival will be important for every character in Matlock as she rocks the boat.

Her Previous Work With Urman Makes Her Arrival More Exciting
Machado has already proven how well she can portray interesting characters while working with Urman in Jane the Virgin. This makes her joining Matlock all the more exciting, since she's bound to have an interesting storyline that clashes and weaves with the rest of Jacobson Moore. This will be interesting when she greets Senior, including the conflict that could arise.
As for her larger role at the law firm, Matlock will likely make her taking advantage of being in New York a prominent part of the upcoming episodes. This means plenty of twists and turns that haven't been revealed quite yet, possibly intermingling with established stories. Whatever happens, Machado's Eve sounds like a perfect addition to the legal drama.
Matlock season 2 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET before moving to its regular time on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
