Billie’s Tracker Season 2 Return Proves Why She Is So Wrong For Colter

Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from Tracker season 2, episode 3, "Bloodlines."

After appearing in one season 1 episode, Sofia Pernas returns as Billie Matalon in Tracker season 2, episode 3, to team up with Justin Hartley's Colter Shaw again and show why the two characters don't work as a couple. Pernas makes her debut as Billie, a rival tracker to Colter, in season 1, episode 6. Billie is Colter's former partner who betrayed him by taking the reward money from one case for herself and skipping town. However, in season 1, the two trackers team up to find a missing racehorse and reunite on another case in Tracker season 2's story.

Colter has had his fair share of love interests throughout Tracker, but Billie is undoubtedly one of the more prominent ones. Alongside Reenie Greene and Camille Picket, Billie is among Colter's most notable romantic prospects. Colter and Billie definitely have chemistry (the actors are married in real life, after all). However, just because two characters share romantic chemistry doesn't mean they should act on said romance. For example, on paper, Colter and Billie should work as a couple. However, Tracker season 2, episode 3 proved that they are better off as rivals/friends than as a couple.

At the beginning of Tracker season 2, episode 3, "Bloodlines," Billie calls Colter for help on a job. A high school baseball pitcher, Eric Dobbs, has gone missing in her hometown in Nebraska (which is news to Colter, who thought Billie was from Miami). Since Billie previously left the city not on good terms with its people, she convinces Colter to act as a buffer between her and them while they try to find Eric. So, Sofia Pernas' character has good intentions this time around. As a result, Billie has a different dynamic with Colter in Tracker season 2, episode 3.

The former partners and current rivals work together to locate Eric. The baffling case takes a few twists and turns throughout the hour until Colter and Billie trace it back to a biohacking group that uses young blood as an anti-aging agent. When the man, who posted the reward for finding Eric, Shane Nile, backs out, so does Billie. While she's leaving town without having found Eric or the reward money, Shane kidnaps her and takes her to where Eric is being held. Ultimately, Colter saves them both, and Billie opens up to him about her past in Tracker season 2, episode 3.

Tracker Season 2, Episode 3 Reveals Billie & Colter's Different Principles

Billie Works For The Money

Even though Billie gets a little bit vulnerable with Colter at the end of Tracker season 2, episode 3, the hour still proves why they shouldn't be a couple. Colter and Billie have completely different sets of values and principles when it comes to their jobs. While Billie is mostly in it for the money, Colter thrives when he's helping people. She gives up in episode 3 after the reward money is no longer up for grabs, but Colter stays and commits to finding Eric. Neither one is right or wrong, but the Tracker characters' methods and morals will never align.

If they became a couple, Colter and Billie's personal and work lives would just consistently clash. Honestly, their personal and work lives are interchangeable as they are essentially one. So, if Colter and Billie were to start dating, it would only end in disaster. They are who they are as people and as trackers, and that is never going to change. Perhaps CBS's first Tracker spinoff can revolve around Billie's adventures, but a world where Billie is the one who Colter ends up with is unrealistic.

Despite the fact that "Bloodlines" lays out all the reasons why Billie is the wrong woman for Colter, Sofia Pernas is set to return in future episodes. Per US Weekly, Justin Hartley confirmed his wife, Pernas, would reprise her role as Billie following the ending of Tracker season 2, episode 3. While appearing on Max's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace?, Hartley said:

"[Sofia Pernas will] be on next week [Tracker season 2, episode 3]. She comes back a few times. It's great. It's great having her. She's a light, and we get the greatest guest stars on our show."

It's unclear which episodes will feature Pernas as Billie. However, Tracker season 2 will reportedly have 22 episodes, meaning there will be plenty of opportunities for the actress to come back to the CBS action drama. Aside from Pernas, Jensen Ackles is also expected to return as Russell Shaw in Tracker season 2 after his appearance in episode 2, and Hartley is holding out hope that Melissa Roxburgh will reprise her role as Dory Shaw before the season ends.
