Chicago Fire Season 13 came to an explosive end on Wednesday night (May 21) during the season finale episode, Episode 22 (“It Had to End This Way”).
There were several big developments in the episode, including Herrmann (David Eigenberg) stepping down as Lieutenant for Mouch (Christian Stolte), and Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) telling Severide (Taylor Kinney) she’s pregnant.
As for Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri), both characters survived the episode despite their confirmed exits.
Carver revealed he’s transferring to Denver for his sobriety, but ended the episode by kissing Violet (Hanako Greensmith), making his goodbye feel incomplete.
Ritter’s exit wasn’t addressed at all.
Showrunner Andrea Newman says that’s intentional, leaving room for future returns: “We want to give them some good, surprising moments and goodbyes, and then maybe hellos later down the line,” she told TVLine.
With Stella’s pregnancy likely leading to time off and gaps left at Firehouse 51, fans may not have seen the last of either firefighter just yet. Stay tuned!
