Tracker Season 2 Premiere Date Moved Up By CBS

The release date for Tracker season 2 has been changed at CBS. Led by This Is Us star Justin Hartley, and created by Ben H. Winters, with Elwood Reid as showrunner, the action drama is based on the Never Game novel by Jeffery Weaver. The story centers on Hartley's Colter Shaw, a skilled survivalist who earns his living by helping law enforcement and others track down what they need in exchange for money. The premise proved to be a hit for CBS, reaching viewership highs, and getting a quick renewal for Tracker season 2.

Variety confirms that Tracker season 2 will now join other returning shows at CBS, premiering on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 8 PM ET, serving as the lead-in for the season finale of Big Brother. This is a notable shift from the initially announced premiere date of Sunday, October 27.

Tracker's season 1 finale closes out in style, with an appearance from Hartley's This Is Us co-star Jennifer Morrison. In her guest capacity, Morrison has a pivotal role as Lizzy Hawking, the childhood friend of Colter, who is looking for her missing daughter. The case has a happy ending, with Colter helping to bring the daughter home safely. Lizzy ultimately reveals that her mother and Colter's father, Ashton, had an affair before Ashton Shaw died.

This adds another wrinkle to the complicated Shaw family history. Colter has long believed that his brother, Russell (Jensen Ackles), had a hand in their paranoid father's death. Russell maintains that he did not kill Ashton, with the two siblings having a good relationship despite the complications. The finale further doubles down on the fact that Ashton's work for the government was even more high-level than Colter realized.

Given that Ackles is confirmed to return as Russell for a few episodes in the upcoming season, there are also broader questions about the supporting Tracker cast which includes Robin Weigert, Abby McEnany, Eric Graise, and Fiona Rene. But the notably quicker release date means answers are coming soon, and it's no surprise given that the action drama adaption was CBS' biggest show earlier this year and surpassed veteran series like NCIS.
