Tracker Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know

CBS' thrilling procedural series Tracker has scored an early renewal for season 2, and there are already exciting updates about the sophomore season. Debuting in February 2024, Tracker concerns a lone-wolf survivalist named Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) who uses his expert tracking skills to make a living by helping people recover lost items and find missing people. Based on the book The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker has a sharp and fascinating edge that many procedurals lack, as well as an interesting lead character to build upon.

The critical reception to the fledgling series has been largely positive, with many praising the simple but effective approach to the procedural format that has thoroughly run its course (via Rotten Tomatoes). Despite an abundance of the genre on TV, procedurals that aren't cop shows prove to be consistently popular because they can use the case-per-week formula without getting bogged down in the repetitiveness of actual police and law proceedings. CBS saw something strong in the first few episodes of Tracker, and the show was quickly renewed for another case.

Though the ensemble of the upcoming sophomore season has mostly been growing, the latest news confirms that Tracker season 2 has lost its first cast member. Appearing throughout season 1 as Colter's helper who secures his cases and gives him intel, Robin Weigert will not be returning as Teddi Bruin in season 2. No reason has been given for the departure, and it's unclear how it will change season 2's story with Teddi's wife, Velma (played by Abby McEnany), returning.

With the new season only freshly announced, the cast of Tracker season 2 has not been confirmed yet. However, the likelihood of the main cast returning en masse is quite high, and Justin Hartley will return as the rugged survival expert Colter Shaw. Besides a slew of supporting characters who help to connect Shaw to his past, the series employs a wide range of guest stars in each episode as the eponymous tracker earns his rewards by helping those who need his services the most. At this juncture, it is impossible to guess who those guest stars could be.

It has been confirmed that two guest stars will return to reprise their roles in season 2, which suggests they are being promoted to recurring status going forward. Justin Hartley himself announced that Sofia Pernas will be back as Billie, while Jennifer Morrison will reprise her role as Lizzy in the sophomore outing. Hartley also teased more family drama in season 2, hinting that Jensen Ackles will be back as Colter's brother, Russell Shaw. The only departure thus far is that of Robin Weigert who appeared in season 1 as Teddi Bruin.

The expected returning cast of Tracker season 2 includes:

At this juncture, it is impossible to speculate on what exactly will happen in the new episodes of Tracker when season 2 does finally roll around. Though season 1 has hinted at Colter's past and explored why he opted for such a nomadic lifestyle, those questions will not be fully answered in just one season. Therefore, aside from the case-per-week format, season 2 of Tracker can be expected to shine more light on the mysterious Colter Shaw and his father.
