Tracker’s Major Character Exit & Its Season 2 Impact Addressed By Star

Ahead of the Tracker season 2 premiere, Fiona Rene, who plays Reenie on the show, discusses how Teddi's absence will affect the story. The news of Robin Weigert's departure from the show was confirmed in August 2024. Weigert's Teddi Bruin was a major part of season 1, having appeared in a few scenes in every episode. The actor's departure from the show will not go without notice, which raises the question of how it'll affect season 2.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant's Rachel Foertsch, Rene revealed that Teddi's departure is much needed and could give "an opportunity for the Reenie, Velma, and Bobby characters to come together." While Velma and Teddi are a dynamic duo that is vital to Colter Shaw's work life, Teddi's absence would see a real team behind his operation. Read her full response below:

In general, I feel like the team has gotten stronger and closer. Robin Weigert is an absolute star, and I love her personally and professionally, but I think it really gave an opportunity for the Reenie, Velma, and Bobby characters to come together, as opposed for the Velma and Teddi characters to be so separate from the other two, which I think is necessary because we're developing something and turning into a little family supporting our boy. Without us being a team when he's gone, literally together and talking to each other, it would be really hard to support.

What Fiona Rene's Comment Means for Tracker Season 2

Teddi has been a crucial part of Colter's work life, but the situation is going to be very different. Previously, showrunner Elwood Reid revealed that Teddi wouldn't be "killed off" in the show. Instead, Velma and Teddi are separated, which causes Teddi's absence. In light of Rene's comment, it seems that Tracker's season 2 would explore how this unexpected development in Velma's personal life would affect those around her.

While dealing with abandonment and heartbreak, Teddi's departure would also serve as a bonding opportunity for Reenie, Bobby, and Velma. A team is coming together in Teddi's absence, meaning that season 2 would likely forefront the theme of family and team. This storyline would also allow the Tracker characters to get a new purpose, particularly since Justin Hartley's Colter Shaw will be focused on how his father died.

Our Take on Teddi's Absence

It Shakes Things Up A Little

Colter and Jackson Cheong in Tracker look worried.

While the reason behind Weigert's exit is unknown, it seems that it's unexpectedly serving the show. Weigert is a phenomenal actor and not having her in season 2 is a loss. Still, Teddi's absence can be easily arranged given that the Tracker season 1 ending moved toward the case of Colter solving the mystery of his father. Hence, the evolving dynamic between Reenie, Velma, and Bobby is certainly something to look forward to. It'll also be interesting to explore how the change would affect Colter in his work life. Teddi's departure shuffles a few things around, which would add a little more to the show.
